“Enemies Among Students And Teachers Of Higher Educational Institutions”

Alaksandar Lukashenka supports strengthening of influence of the state on the processes occurring in higher educational institutions of the country. "Recently we have been paying much attention to our education, and it is natural. I am compelled to admit that during the last decade there have been the most severe opposition and, maybe, even struggle on this field of our activity. Here the basic efforts of opposition both internal and external are concentrated. Here is a struggle for minds of our people", - Lukashenka declared during session of Republican Council of Rectors of the Belarus HEI.

Lukashenka emphasized, that today the Belarus HEI are coming into crucial period of their development which distinctive feature is "essential change of the system of higher education and modernization of educational process". The head of the state considers that activity of higher educational institutions requires perfection. As he said, this perfection, "on our plan, represents preservation of all best that has been saved up by the Soviet education". Besides as Lukashenka said, "naturally we are integrating today even more intensively into the best European and world educational systems. We wanted much, involved ourselves in much and today we see, that it is necessary for us, and what is necessary to exclude from the process of reforming of the higher school", - the president of republic added.

Lukashenka informed, that today on 10 thousand population in Belarus the number of students has increased twice in comparison with 1990 year. He ascertained that on some specialities - such as lawyers, economists, and teachers - graduates of high schools fill up numbers of the unemployed”. “We should give the answer: whether growth of number of people with higher education is caused by real needs of the Belarusian economy?" - the head of the state declared.

As Lukashenka told, he is disturbed with the tendency of decrease in amount of graduates of rural schools acting in higher educational institutions. "The share of peasants in high schools was reduced up to 1-3% from the general number of students", - he explained. "You have overlooked, that today talented, reliable and strong kiddies live in these villages", - Lukashenka emphasized, addressing to members of Council of Rectors.
