Students of the Closed HEI Have to Abandon Studies
The administrations of the closed HEI must settle at new study places more than 3.000 students and this work has not been finished yet.
But at most HEI and polytechnics exams are about to start these days and most of them will not be in time before the start of the exam session. This and many other circumstances affect students rather negatively, says the Director of a Private College of Economics and Management in Miensk Vera Piasockaja:
(Piasockaja:) “Our students are being transferred now and come to new places at exams session period. Surely, for students that will become one more tragedy, as they will have to work with new teachers who do not know them. We were working with students almost individually. Moreover, those are the very buildings which need more attention of the authorities as many of them do not even have canteens for students to eat. Besides, ethical attitude of some teachers in new HEI also needs attention. And our kids face that every day”.
“For many students this exams session will be larger because of difference in study programs and will take additional financial resources”, Bahdan Fryshchyn, Executive Rector of the Belarusian Commercial Institute of Management, announced to Radio Liberty.
(Fryshchyn:) “The Ministry is always inventing new subjects that is why students have to pass additionally many subjects. And it costs additional money as they have to pay for each additional exam. The fact that they do not pass this exam session in time means that they will not be transferred to the next semester of studies till New Year. Besides, students are charged with money for finishing studies there. So the financial burden grows as a result”.
But in even worse situation appeared closed Colleges of Economics and Law in Vaukavysk and Kobryn. To pass graduating exams or continue studies students have to move to Horadnia, Mensk, Krychau and other cities. Because of this reason some students refused to finish their studies in general, Natallia Krypinec, the Director of College in Kobryn, informed.
(Krypinec: ) “We do not have such a possibility in our city, and students have been transferred to Miensk College of Business and to Bierascie branch. Students are shocked as they will have to move from Kobryn to Miensk, search for apartment, spend money on transportation and food, pay for the summer session and wait for reimbursement from us. Most students studying here are studying at extramural department, many have small children and other family circumstances which do not let them live in Miensk for three weeks. We are also shocked and confused”.
Uladzimer Vialichka, the Director of Vaukavysk College, is also pity that their students have to continue studies in other towns in much worse circumstances when a specially designed building of the College will most certainly used not in proper way.
(Vialichka: ) “We were creating the base for this College during 7 years by ourselves. People working here consider it to be theirs. It is also pity that this building can be transferred into storage for something or a shop, into nothing. And now we have here ready material resources for the study process which is one of the best in the region.”
In the closed by the authorities HEI more than 600 teachers were working. Many of them are now unemployed.
